How Does a DHCP Server Work?

When a client device connects to a network, it sends a DHCP Discover message, seeking an IP address assignment. The DHCP server, listening for such requests, responds with a DHCP Offer message, presenting an available IP address to the client. If the client accepts the offer, it sends a DHCP Request message to confirm the allocation. Finally, the server acknowledges the request with a DHCP Acknowledge message, allowing the client to use the assigned IP address and network configuration.
